Antarctica Workshop - Kestrels 5 Dec 25
On a live Zoom call we met Robert Swan OBE; he was the first person to the North AND South Pole.
And here are some of the things he told us:
- Antarctica doesn't have a queen or king.
- We ALL own it.
- Outside of his tent it was -20 °C and -30 °C in windchill.
He also said "It's a place for science, peace and wildlife."
He was inside an ice station in the union glacier field camp which runs on clean renewable energy. Did you know in Antarctica it is always daylight in the summer? The penguins in Antarctica are really friendly; if you sit still they will hobble towards you! They aren't frightened of people, how nice is that?
This zoom has never happened before, we're really lucky to be able to have this, Robert Swan has been going to Antarctica for 40 whole years and he's saying it's feeling warmer and the snow is feeling different. If we want to keep having our lovely Antarctica, we need to keep it clean forever.
