Herons Trip to The Witterings

Herons Class Enjoy a Fantastic Day at West Wittering!

On Thursday, Herons Class had a wonderful trip to West Wittering to learn all about coasts and habitats. The sun was shining, making it the perfect day for exploring the beach and discovering more about our local environment.

One of the highlights of the day was working together to build an incredible row of 280 sandcastles stretching along the beach! Everyone showed fantastic teamwork and determination to complete the challenge.

The children also took part in an exciting flag hunt, searching for flags that identified different coastal defence features. This helped them learn how beaches are protected from the power of the sea in a fun and active way.

After a busy morning, everyone enjoyed a delicious picnic followed by a well-earned ice cream while relaxing in the much-needed shade. The class also explored the beach to spot areas where birds were nesting, learning why it is so important to protect these special habitats.

To finish the day, the children created beautiful Andy Goldsworthy-inspired artwork using natural materials such as pebbles and shells. Their creative designs reflected the beauty of the coastline and the importance of working with nature.

It was a fantastic day of learning, teamwork and creativity. We were especially proud when several members of the public commented on the children's excellent behaviour throughout the trip. Well done, Herons Class—you were wonderful ambassadors for our school!
