Week 2 - Friction

Our second Goblin lesson!

We had a quick introduction on friction before we were split into groups of 4 and were given some materials: bottle tops, straws, rectangular cardboard bases, cocktail sticks, balloons, blu-tac and some sellotape and we were told to build a car.

At first the whole group had no idea what to do, then Tom said “we can use the bottle tops for wheels.”  We had an idea to put a cocktail stick through the straw then attach the two ends of the stick to the wheels with blu-tac.

After about half an hour it was time for the races!  Another group had a really good car with fully pumped up balloons for an extra push and when they let go the balloons went off but the car didn’t move.

This was a great Goblins session.  It was really fun and now I want to experiment with different ideas at home.
