Meet the Governors
Our vision is a caring community where all children feel safe, respected and encouraged to develop their fullest potential
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer governor this video is a lovely introduction.
Welcome to the Governors’ page on the Sheet Primary School website.
The role of the school Governor is a very valuable and rewarding one but often one that is misunderstood. We do not manage the day to day running of the school that is the responsibility of the Headteacher and senior management We oversee the development of the school, with the main aim being to always provide a high standard of education for all pupils, of all abilities.
The role of the Governing Body must focus on three core responsibilities. We should:
- ensure that our school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction
- hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of the staff
- oversee the financial performance of the school, making sure we get value for money and stay in budget.
In addition, we act as a ‘critical friend’ to the school, we recruit and performance manage the Headteacher, we develop, maintain and review school policies and we ensure the school meets its statutory responsibilities.
The Governing Body has up to 12 Governors including staff, parents, a Local Authority nominee and members of the community (Co-opted Governors). As and when there are vacancies, applications are welcome from all eligible candidates. As of November 2024 there are 10 governors, 4 women and 6 men, all being ‘White British’. An election to fill one Parent Governor vacancy is in progress and we have a vacancy for a co-opted governor..
From September 2023 the board is operating with Full Governing Body meetings and separate curriculum meetings, PayCom and Head’s Performance Panel only.
The Head’s Performance Panel sets objectives for and reviews the performance of the Head and makes recommendations to the Pay Committee regarding the Head’s pay.
The Pay Committee reviews the Head’s recommendations regarding staff pay and decides the pay of the Head in the light of the recommendation of the Head’s Performance Panel.
The curriculum meetings have their own TOR and meet regularly to discuss curriculum, data and monitoring.
