Autumn                                           24 November 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

A great week at school this week - I judged the anti-bullying leaflets that have been produced by the children in Kestrels this morning and Jessica Sheldon-Hill is our winner with her fabulous Anti-bullying leaflet. Well planned, well-designed, well written with some fabulous tips, information and help. This will be included in our policy 2023.

Mrs Wilton - one of our Governors, came in this week to look at behaviour at lunchtime, she has written a very positive report for us.

I am going to cancel the online safety meeting at school next week and re-book it as an online 'TEAMS' meeting following some feedback from you. We really do need to get together and talk about the effect of the IT world. Watch this space!

Have a wonderful weekend, I move back into my house after 8 weeks of living elsewhere due to a small renovation which has become a big renovation, not without it's issues! - There's no place like home'.

Infant Nativity - Panto Pandemonium

Rehearsals are going well for the infant nativity.  The dates for the shows are

  • Wednesday 6th December at 2 pm
  • Wednesday 6th December at 4 pm
  • Thursday 7th December at 4 pm

Tickets cost £3.50 for adults (free for children) and are available to purchase through SCOpay.  All junior children will be able to watch the dress rehearsal on the 5th December.

We need help collecting the stage from TPS on Friday 1st and returning it on Friday 8th December.  If anyone has a big car and is available straight after drop off, please can you let Mrs Burford know.

Herons Class are working on a D&T project which involves using the small (40g) Pringle tubes, so if anyone has any empty tubes they can donate with the lid, please drop them into the office.     Many thanks Mrs Philpott

Attendance

There are a lot of coughs and colds about this week. Sadly the attendance for today has taken a real downturn at 82%.

Internet Safety

Does your child play ROBLOX?

Roblox is a platform consisting of a collection of games. Players can either create games or play games that other users have created. It is free to download (however subscription options and in game/app purchases are available) and can be played across numerous devices. A lot of the content is user generated, which may mean not all games will be suitable for your child to view/play. It is important to set up appropriate parental controls for your child.

What rating is Roblox?

PEGI rate Roblox with a Parental Guidance label, this is because it is difficult to rate due to the huge level of user generated content. It is rated for ‘Teens’ on Google Play and 12+ on the App store.

WhatsApp’s editing feature

You must be at least 16 years old to use WhatsApp.

You may have noticed that WhatsApp have added an editing feature so you can change messages that you have sent for up to 15 minutes afterwards. Childnet have published a blog outlining what you should be aware about with this new feature: here

A primary benefit is that editing messages enables users to clarify what they intended to say and address misunderstandings. Also, if a user regrets sending a message, changing or deleting it can save embarrassment and protect their digital wellbeing.

However, when messages are edited, the original content is lost forever, and this lack of transparency can be an issue if somebody was looking to report a message.
