Summer 8                                                    26  June 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

?? THIS WEEK

?? Sports Day
What a fantastic Sports Day we had! This year looked a little different, with our races taking place during the morning rather than as a whole-school event. With the extremely hot weather, our priority was keeping the children safe, cool and comfortable while still ensuring they had the opportunity to enjoy taking part. A huge well done to all of the children for their enthusiasm, determination and excellent sportsmanship throughout the morning. Thank you to all the families who came along to support and cheer everyone on, and to everyone who helped make the event such a success. Three cheers for Sapphire who won (again).

?? Kestrels Swimming
Kestrels enjoyed an extra swimming session this week as they prepared for the upcoming Swimming Gala. The children have shown great determination and confidence in the water, and we are looking forward to seeing them take part.

??‍?? Staffing Update
We look forward to sharing any staffing updates with you as soon as the KS2 teacher appointment process has been completed.

?? A Huge Thank You to Our Staff
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our staff for everything they have done during this exceptionally hot spell. A special mention must go to our KS1 team, who have embraced the sunshine with smiles on their faces while working tirelessly to keep the children cool, comfortable and happy throughout the week. I am incredibly proud of our whole team and the care they show our children every single day.

?? NEXT WEEK – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

?? A Busy Week Ahead
We have lots of exciting events taking place next week:

?? Kestrels' Final Swimming Session & Swimming Gala
Kestrels will have their final swimming session on Monday as we finalise our teams for the Swimming Gala. If your child has told us they would like to swim on Friday, I will make sure they have a race.

Please let us know as soon as possible if your child is unable to attend the gala or if your family cannot make it. We need to confirm our swimmers before Friday evening. It really is such a lovely event, and we hope as many families as possible will come along to support the children.

?? Tuesday – Herons are attending the Celebrate Sound event at Fareham Live.

?? Wednesday – Our new Reception children will be visiting school following this week's cancelled session.

?? Thursday – Selected children will be attending Churcher's College for their Engineers of the Future event.

?? Friday – Year 1 and Year 2 are off to Queen Elizabeth Country Park for their school trip.

?? Friday Evening – The Swimming Gala takes place, and we wish all of our swimmers the very best of luck!

?? Hot Weather Reminder
The warm weather looks set to cool down a bit, however it still remains important to bring:

?? A sun hat

?? A named water bottle

?? Sun cream applied before school and a bottle to re-apply

?? School uniform please

?? Reminders

? Attendance is incredibly important, and every day in school counts. However, given the continued high temperatures today, we understand that some families may wish to collect their children early. If you are able to do so, you are welcome to collect your child at 1:00pm today.

? Ensure all school uniform, PE kit and swimming kit are clearly named.

? If your child has any library books at home, please return them as soon as possible.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and stay safe in the sunshine! ??

Phew - now to lie down in an air conditioned room for the weekend!

??Sun Safety ??

?? Keeping Children Safe in the Sun

With the sunny weather continuing, it's a great time to enjoy being outdoors, but it's also important to take extra care to protect children from the sun.

Young skin is particularly sensitive to UV rays, so simple precautions can make a big difference. Encourage children to wear a wide-brimmed hat or cap, lightweight clothing that covers their shoulders, and sunglasses with UV protection where possible. Apply a high-factor sunscreen (SPF 30 or above with good UVA protection) generously before going outside and reapply it regularly, especially after swimming or vigorous play.

Try to plan outdoor activities for earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon, avoiding prolonged periods in direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm, when UV levels are usually at their strongest. Remember that children can still become sunburnt on cloudy days.

Keeping children well hydrated is equally important. Offer plenty of water throughout the day and encourage regular breaks in the shade to cool down.

By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help children enjoy the sunshine safely while making the most of the wonderful weather. We hope you have a fun, safe and sun-filled summer! ??
