Spring 11                                                    22 March 2024

Dear Parents/Carers

I think the main event this week was the arrival of all 10 of our chicks! There has been no end of excitement and 108 turns to hold (we haven't quite managed that yet!).  See our news article below.

Last week the innovative Kestrels made a lot of money for comic relief. See news article below. Well done to them all, they loved the challenge and did really well.

We have had another successful parents evening week and our Year 5's did us proud at the Petersfield Music Festival on Monday and Wednesday night. Our Robins class had a trip to Petersfield this week and we had a wonderful letter back from the library. See below. Very proud of everyone!

Good morning Lindsey, I just wanted to email you to say how lovely it was to have Robins here at the library yesterday! They were so attentive and listened so well, and they left the library even tidier than they probably found it! They are such a credit to you and the school, and I really hope they enjoyed being here as much as we enjoyed having them! We hope to see you again! Best wishes, Catherine.

Catherine Goodall (she/her) Library Team Assistant

Other exciting news, we now have an eco-club! Josh, Bea and Bea are leading us through the Schools Green Flag application with an assembly, an eco-audit and lots more besides. We look forward to seeing their progress and hopefully having a flag to display before July!

As next week is the last week of term, there will be NO CLUBS. We have a brilliant Wonka Library Trail on Monday organised by Mrs Hobson and Mrs Wilby - children looking for clues within books in our library to gain a treat! Easter craft night on Tuesday after school, FOSS Easter Egg hunt on Wednesday and we finish at 1.15pm on Wednesday with INSET day being on Thursday.

On Wednesday at 9am we will have our usual big end of term assembly with our values certificates given out, we will also have the Easter raffle then too, so please buy a raffle ticket from the playground or the office, they are selling fast!

Look out for an invite to the final assembly - we choose 5 children from each class each term to receive a 'values' certificate. You will get an invite if your child is going to get a certificate by Monday at 10am.

The Robins outside area tidy up has been POSTPONED - new date is Saturday 27th April same timings 9.30 - 11.30am.

Finally the clubs list will go out today and we have an exciting new junior computing club - First come first served however preference will be given to Year 6 children for computing club as they will only have 1 term of it and it seems very popular.

Roll on holidays is all I can say!

Enjoy your weekend.

Wow - we got to 99% on Thursday!!!

Thank you to everyone for putting the effort in to increase our attendance, it really does make a difference to our staff and to the children's learning.

Internet Safety

12% of young people in the UK are affected by cyberbullying

Best practices for parents and carers

Have an open conversation

Listen, and offer support and encouragement. If your child is the victim of cyberbullying, remind them that this is not their fault and that no one deserves to be treated in this way. Some young people think that if they are the target of online bullying, they must have done something wrong. It is also important to encourage your child to save the evidence. They can do this by taking a screenshot of what has happened or by keeping the messages they have received.

Don’t reply

Most of the time the person doing the bullying is looking for a reaction when they are being mean online. Tell your child not to reply, instead they should tell a trusted adult what has happened. Reassure them that even if they are also at fault, they should come and talk to you or a trusted adult. You can then work out the best way to resolve the situation together.

Don’t deny access to technology

Although it can be very tempting to remove a device from a young person if they are being bullied, having their device taken away may prevent them from speaking to you about worrying issues in the future.

Discuss next steps

Ask your child what they want you to do next. This might involve speaking to school to get support and advice, blocking the user or profile or reporting the behaviour to the site or service it is on.
