Summer 12                                                    12 July  2024

Dear Sheet Primary School Community,

What a whirlwind of a week we've had! Despite the unpredictable weather, our school has been buzzing with activity and excitement. I'm thrilled to share with you all the wonderful happenings and upcoming events that make our school such a vibrant place.

We kicked off the week with our Teddy Bears Picnic, and while the rain may have dampened the grass, it certainly didn't dampen our spirits! Our resourceful team quickly moved the event indoors, and although it wasn't quite the same as spreading out on the field, it was heartwarming to see our new children and their buddies enjoying themselves in the hall.

Our Year 6 students took a big step towards their future this week with their transition evening at TPS and today their transition ‘bump up’ day. It's always a mix of excitement and nerves as they prepare for this new chapter, but I'm confident they'll take it in their stride.

The Year 2 children had a fantastic morning at TPS, participating in a sports event with other small schools. These opportunities to interact with peers from different schools are so valuable, fostering new friendships and building confidence.

One of the highlights of our week was undoubtedly the Year 4 annual camp out. I've heard wonderful reports of tired but happy children who absolutely loved the experience. A big thank you to Mrs Philpott, Miss Buxey and Mrs Hines for making this possible. These are the kinds of memories our children will cherish for years to come.

Looking ahead to next week, we've got even more exciting events on the horizon. On Monday after school, our Year 5/6 students will be showcasing their sporting prowess in a rounders match at Langrish School against other small schools. We wish them the best of luck!

The junior production of Shrek is set to be a showstopper! The juniors will perform for the school, on Monday followed by parent performances on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-7.30pm. I had the privilege of watching a rehearsal yesterday, and I can assure you, you're in for a treat. The talent of our young actors and actresses is truly impressive. If you haven't already, don't forget to grab your tickets on Classlist. And for the parents, there's an added incentive of a bar and ice cream available!

Alongside the 'theatre' theme, year 4 and 5 take our annual visit to Wylds Farm for a morning of Shakespeare! Our youngest learners in Year R the Robins are in for an adventure on Thursday with their trip to Marwell Zoo. I'm sure they'll return full of excitement and newfound knowledge about the animal kingdom.

As we approach the end of term, our Year 6 are gearing up for their celebrations. They'll be camping on the field on 18th July (weather permitting) and enjoying a leavers trip to Andrew Simpson Watersports Centre in Southsea. These events mark the culmination of their primary school journey, and we're committed to making them as memorable as possible.

To cap off another bustling week, we're all looking forward to our annual colour run, organised by our fantastic FOSS team. It's always a joy to see the children (and adults!) covered in a rainbow of colours, laughing and having fun together.

Amidst all this activity, I'm delighted to celebrate the success of our library poetry competition. The entries were truly impressive, showcasing the creativity and talent of our budding poets. This morning, we had the pleasure of awarding the winners with £5 book vouchers in assembly. Well done to all who participated – your words have brightened our school!

As I reflect on all these events, I'm reminded of how fortunate we are to have such a vibrant and supportive school community. From the dedication of our staff to the enthusiasm of our students and the involvement of our parents, it's this collective effort that makes Sheet Primary School such a special place.
