Summer 13                                                     23 July 2024

Dear Parents/Carers

Despite the rather soggy weather, our whole school summer walk was a memorable adventure. Who says a little rain can dampen our spirits?

Our Year 6 leavers have truly left their mark. Their assembly was nothing short of spectacular, complete with an unexpected rap that had us all tapping our feet! And let's not forget the amazing leavers disco - pizza and ice-lollies were the perfect fuel for those dance moves.

The final celebration assembly of the year was a wonderful way to round off the year. It's moments like these that remind us of the vibrant community we've built together.

We said a heartfelt farewell to Mrs Philpott yesterday andto our fantastic Year 6 leavers. You'll be deeply missed, but we know you're ready for your next adventure. Remember to carry the Sheet spirit with you wherever you go! We can't wait to hear about all your future successes!

I have posted on our Facebook page some ideas for the summer alongside places where kids eat for free!

Next term we will be looking for extra parent minibus driver helpers, so have a think if you would like to get your licence through us!

As I mentioned before, I am very keen to get involved with the smart phone free childhood movement just look at  the research:  https://smartphonefreechildhood.co.uk/the-problem. I need a 'buy in' from the whole school community. So have a look and a think and I will organise an online meeting in September where we can discuss further.

Thank you all for an amazing year at Sheet, it makes me so proud to see your children grow in confidence, individuality and greatness every day. Enjoy the long hot summer.

I'll be back in touch regarding stationery, PE days and all the little reminders in the middle of August.

Attendance

We expect 100% attendance. We managed 2 days of 100% attendance this year and none in the summer term.

Good school attendance habits are best started early.

Children learn from those around them and you as parents/carers set the standards and expectations for your child. Showing your child the importance of attending school every day not only helps your child to settle quickly when starting school but helps them to keep and maintain friendships and enjoy the school environment.

Mental Health

BOOST your Mental Health over the Holiday Period

1. Don’t do away with the routine

Long lie-ins are a must sometimes but if you’re sleeping lots every day, it can have a negative impact on your mental health. It’s OK to relax your routine a little – we’re not suggesting 6am starts – but try to go to bed at a reasonable time and get up not much more than an hour later than you normally would. Have a shower and get dressed, even if you’ve got no plans. You’ll feel refreshed and more energised.

2. Get planning

If you’re struggling to get motivated, planning your time can help. Give yourself something to do every morning and afternoon, and make sure you have a good mix. Schedule some time for gaming, reading or watching TV and add in a couple of chores. It’s not just to keep your parents happy (although that’s an added bonus), it’ll give you a sense of achievement and make the fun stuff more enjoyable.

3. Practice a summer of self-care

Self-care is all about being kind to yourself, listening to what your body and mind need and making time for the things that make you feel good. Check-in with yourself each morning and evening to see how you’re feeling and if there’s anything you need. Sometimes a few minutes of mindfulness, a short walk or a nice relaxing bath can do wonders. Try making a list of some feel-good activities and plan them out for the weeks ahead.

4. Enjoy the great outdoors

OK, so living in the UK’s second city, it might feel like we’re miles from the countryside, but there’s more to see in Brum than you might think. As well as beautiful parks and nature reserves, a walk around the city itself can be pretty interesting. Whatever works for you, try to get outside at least a few times a week.

5. Stay connected

If you can’t meet up with your mates over the summer, six weeks can feel like a lifetime. Having some company is important for everyone, so make an effort to catch up with family members and keep in touch with friends if possible.
