Autumn 2                                          13 September 2024

Dear Parents/Carers

Hello everyone,

What a fantastic week we've had at Sheet Primary! It's been bustling with activity, and I'm excited to share all the wonderful things happening in our school community.

First off, our clubs are in full swing, kicking off this week. It's brilliant to see our pupils engaging in various activities beyond the classroom.

I'm thrilled to report that our new Robins have settled in beautifully. They've completed their first full four days, and we couldn't be prouder of how well they're adapting to school life.

Our Herons are embarking on an exciting musical journey! They've started their Hampshire music lessons and will be learning to play the ukulele this term with full funding from FOSS. How fantastic is that? But that's not all – they're also taking part in the Petersfield Lions' Big Roar challenge in their PSHE lessons. It's a big engineering competition, and we're keeping our fingers crossed for a win!

Speaking of competitions, our Year 5 and 6 boys had a cracking football tournament at Bedales this week. A massive thank you to Mrs Mifsud, Mrs Dudin, Mrs Childs, Mrs Dryburgh, and all the parents who helped with transport and cheered on our teams. Don't forget to check out the pictures and match reports on our stories page!

Looking ahead, we've got individual photographs on Monday. Please ensure your child is wearing their best, clean and smart school uniform. If it's their PE day, remember to bring their kit too.

There is a 'times tables' meeting for Herons parents on Tuesday after school, come and see how we teach our times tables! Young Voices club starts on Tuesday – how exciting! After the first practise, please let the office know if you can confirm your child's place at the O2. We need to order tickets soon, so don't delay!

Some of our Year 4 children will be playing in the Bedales football tournament on Wednesday. Mrs Mifsud has kindly offered to run this again, with a practise on Tuesday at lunchtime. We're still looking for help with transport, so please let us know if you can lend a hand.

For those of you with friends considering Sheet Primary for their children (and who wouldn't?), our new parent tours start on Thursday 19th. Spread the word!

And finally, our lovely Kestrels are off on their residential on Sunday 22nd. What an adventure awaits them!

Oh, and one last thing – a quick correction on PE days for our Robins: it's Monday and Friday, please!

It's been a joy to share all these exciting updates with you. Here's to another fantastic week ahead at Sheet Primary!

Note:  phonics meeting date - 24th September at 3.30 pm

Enjoy the sunny autumnal weather!

Attendance

You will have seen that I have sent a new attendance leaflet for you to read.

Regular attendance matters.

Internet Safety

Featuring characters and messages from the CEOP Education Jessie & Friends resource, the new 4-7s website helps children to develop the skills and knowlede they need to help them stay safer when spending time online.

Designed for children to visit at home with their parents and carers, users complete 'badges' where they help the characters, Jessie, Tia and Mo, to identify when to 'Tell a Grown Up' (TAG) in different online situations.

How does it work?

Each badge asks a series of questions, aimed at helping children to recognise worrying or frightening situations online. Answering each question correctly earns a star. When children have answered all the questions in a badge and earned three stars, they will get a certificate to download or print and colour in.

The four badges cover the following topics:

• watching videos

• sharing pictures (6-7 year olds only)

• online gaming (6-7 year olds only)

• chatting online (6-7 year olds only)

The website is divided into sections for 4-5 and 6-7 year olds and features relevant and age appropriate badges and videos for the chosen age bracket.

Game/Activity of the Week

If you fancy a lovely circular walk...make the most of the sunshine and try this one!

Thorney island - Walking the coastal path - or a part of it!

The circular walk starts at Emsworth Yacht Club and crosses the Thorney Road to follow the well-marked coast path onto Prinstead Lane to the village of Prinstead. From the Sea Scouts Hut, the path follows the dyke south through Thornham Marina and Paynes Boatyard to cross the Great Deep and the MoD’s East security gate. The route then hugs the coast until it exits the island at the MoD’s West security gate, and continues to the Emsworth marina.
