Autumn 4                                          27 September 2024

Hello everyone,

What a fantastic week we've had at Sheet Primary! There's so much to share, so let's dive right in.

Our Kestrels have just returned from their annual residential trip to Osmington Bay. Three nights away filled with adventure, laughter, and friendship – it's been an absolute joy to see the amazing memories they've created. Kestrels parents are invited to see the photos and hear about it all on Monday at 3.15pm.

A big thank you to all the Kingfisher parents who attended our phonics and maths presentation. If you couldn't make it, don't worry! You can find the presentation on our website under the 'Curriculum' and 'English' section.

Herons took part in the Climate Unity Virtual Conference on Wednesday, deepening their understanding of the climate crisis. It's wonderful to see our pupils engaging with such important global issues.

Thanks to FOSS, our ukulele lessons continued this week, and we rounded off Friday with a delightful Macmillan cake sale. Your support for these events is always appreciated!

Looking ahead, we've got a packed week coming up. We're sending two teams of quizzers to Churcher's College on Monday, and our Y5/6 footballers will be heading to Bohunt. Parents, don't forget the 'Smartphone Free Childhood' meeting at TPS on Monday at 7pm. You can join the parent pact at https://parentpact.smartphonefreechildhood.co.uk/.

A few important dates for your diary: Wednesday 2nd October is the final day for ordering school photos. Thursday and Friday next week are Grandparents lunch days for our Infant children – a chance for up to two grandparents to join their grandchild for lunch at school. It's always a popular event, so please get your orders in as soon as possible!

Finally, Herons class will be stepping back in time on Friday with a visit to Butser Ancient Farm, exploring life from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.

It's shaping up to be another super busy week at Sheet Primary. As always, thank you for your continued support and engagement in our school community.

PS: Please be careful with your parking!

Don't forget, our annual Harvest Festival service will take place on Tuesday 22nd October at 1.30 pm at St Mary Magdalen Church, it will finish at 2.30 and then we will walk the children back to school before pick up from 3pm.

Enjoy the weekend all!

1 in 4 young adults show signs of behavioural addiction to smartphones. The average teen receives 237 smartphone notifications a day – one every few minutes – making focusing on schoolwork hard. Studies show that excessive smartphone use has negative impacts on academic performance.

Join the growing movement of parents across Britain who believe that childhood is too short to be spent on a smartphone.

It takes 30 seconds to sign the Parent Pact. And the more of us who do, the quicker we'll change the social norm - and protect childhood for our children and future generations. Find out more about our mission to keep childhood smartphone-free their our website.

Game of the Week .... by Alison Thirkeld

I asked my son what his favourite games were when he was at Sheet Primary School, he responded with Chess and Minotaurus.  Minotaurus is still on the market and obviously Chess will always be popular.    Minotaurus is promoted as:

The mighty Minotaur, a mythical creature, protects a secret temple hidden deep inside a labyrinth.  Be the first to lead your heroes to the temple, avoiding the Minotaur and cleverly placing walls to block your opponents.  Clear and simple rules make this game great fun for the whole family.  Age 7+
