Autumn 11                                         22 November 2024

Hello everyone,

£10,000 profit from the FIREWORKS WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!

What a week it's been at Sheet Primary! Despite the relative quiet, we had a burst of excitement yesterday with the snow. It's always amazing to see how a bit of the white stuff can light up our pupils' faces, isn't it?

Speaking of the cold weather, it's definitely made its presence known. Please make sure your children are bundled up warm when they come to school. Layers are key, and don't forget those warm coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. We want everyone cosy and ready to learn! Also, as it's 'cough & cold' season too, please can we ask each family to donate a box of tissues and would anyone donate some 6+ calpol or equivalent? We give this out during the day following consent however we get through quite a bit.

Reminder: If your child is ill, please telephone the school office on each day of any absence.

We're on the lookout for two new governors - a parent governor and a co-opted governor from our community. Fancy helping us raise achievement standards and improve education at Sheet Primary? Our governing body plays a crucial role in the school's effectiveness, bringing a wealth of experience from various backgrounds. Don't worry if you're not an education expert - all you need is enthusiasm, commitment, and an interest in education. Check out the attachments for more details, and feel free to pass them on to friends or colleagues who might be interested.

Next week, our Kestrels class is in for a treat! They're off to Petersfield Museum for a fantastic workshop that brings wartime history to life. They'll explore real evacuees' experiences in Petersfield during World War II, connecting with both the evacuees' stories and those of the generous locals who opened their homes. It's a brilliant way to wrap up their history topic. The children will head out after an early lunch in their uniforms (don't forget those sensible walking shoes!) and will be back in time for the end of the school day.

Next Friday is the closing date of the Henry Adams Christmas Diorama Competition. Please drop any entries to the Henry Adams office or into school by Friday 29th.   All entries receive a small prize and the winning entry, a fabulous Lego set.

Talking of Christmas, rehearsals for the Infant nativity are going well - is anyone with a large car able to help collect the staging from TPS on Wednesday 4th December at 4 pm?  If so, please let the office know. Oh, and here's a reminder for your diaries - Santa's sleigh will be making its rounds on Saturday, 7th December. Catch it at Pooh Corner at 17:00 and Tilmore Gardens at 17:45. It's always such a magical sight! See all of the Christmassy things FOSS have organised too!

That's all from me for now. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, my door is always open. Here's to another great week at Sheet Primary!

PS: I have attached a leaflet from 'Thrive 365' on sleep for you as part of our mental health drive here at school. Sleep for everyone is so important for wellbeing. We shall have a leaflet on a different topic each week.

FOSS News

This year was our most successful Sheet Fireworks night ever! We are so proud to report that we made an incredible £10,678 profit, with over 2000 people attending and a revenue of £15,029. Alongside the usual things that FOSS support eg school trips, the annual Christmas Pantomime trip (coming up!), laptops, forest school and learning resources etc etc FOSS are also hoping to fund a lasting legacy to the school. Current proposals are for either a wooden roundhouse-type shelter in the playground or a new climbing frame on the field. If any parents have any experience or business contacts in these areas, please do let us know as we're looking for advice and quotes! All help gratefully received.

It feels like we're on the countdown to Christmas already! You'll be pleased to hear that FOSS has some exciting things planned:

Santa Fun Run and Mini Fair: Fri 13th December 3.15-4.30:

🎅🏻 Santa fun run: taking the daily mile to a new level: LAPLAND! We’re challenging the kids to run 11 laps dressed as Santa or his helpers. Tickets are £3 and will include a Santa hat and prize for completing the laps 🧑🏻‍🎄

🎁 Mini fair: we’ll be selling mince pies and mulled wine and treats for the kids to warm up afterwards. We’re looking for volunteers and inspiration for a couple of small stalls eg a lucky dip, tombola and/or a books and toys stall. Please get in touch with Tamar if you’ve got ideas!

🎄Sports mufti day: even if you can’t make the fun run or mini fair after school, all the kids are invited to come into school in sports mufti so those taking part are ready for action! Please bring in £1 and give to class teachers as usual

Buy tickets and sign up to help if you can on Classlist here

Other Christmassy bits:

- We'll be running a reverse advent calendar throughout December - there will be a box outside the front door for you to leave donations and small presents which we will take to Petersfield Foodbank

- Alice Cox hopes to run her ever-popular kids Christmas gift shop where the children can buy a present for you and have it wrapped by a small team of volunteers. Look out for an announcement on Classlist soon

- Shelly Williams has kindly coordinated Christmas cards with your kids' artwork on them - they should be arriving back at school soon!

- Eagle eyed observers may notice no mention of a raffle. We’re going to run it in the Spring instead. This is in recognition of your generous contributions to FOSS this term already and the fact that there are already about a million things for all of us parents to remember around Christmas, so we thought we’d strike one thing off that list!

Library News

We have had some interesting library sessions recently.

Last week we spoke about World Hello Day, celebrated on the 21st November.  The idea was that the children were to try to say hello to at least 10 people outside of their friendship group. My challenge was for them to say it in different languages!

The children came up with different ways to say hello: bonjour, hola, namaste, konichiwa, buongiorno, and even g'day mate, which pleased Mrs Dudin who was helping me last week!

This week we are talking about National Tree week; if you're out and about for a walk (although rain may prevent this weekend!), kick through the leaves, notice the different leaves you can spot, marvel in the beautiful autumnal colours.

Happy weekend!
