Spring 1                                         10 January 2025

Hello everyone,

Happy New Year to all our wonderful Sheet Primary School families! I hope you've had a restful break and are feeling refreshed as we dive into 2025. It's been fantastic to see our pupils return with such enthusiasm and energy – they've truly hit the ground running! Very special thanks from everyone for the wonderful gifts we received. It really is not necessary, but warmly received nevertheless.

Speaking of new beginnings, our assemblies this week have focused on New Year's resolutions. We've been encouraging our pupils to think about positive changes they'd like to make this year, both big and small. It's been inspiring to hear their thoughtful ideas and ambitious goals.

In line with this theme of fresh starts and looking forward, our whole-school PSHE focus is currently on dreams and goals. We're working with our pupils to help them identify their aspirations and develop strategies to achieve them. It's never too early to start dreaming big!

Our Friday assembly centred around the important value of cooperation. We discussed how working together can help us accomplish so much more than we can alone. It's been wonderful to see this principle in action as our pupils settle back into their classroom routines.

On to next week: our after-school clubs will be starting up again next week. These clubs offer fantastic opportunities for our pupils to explore new interests, develop skills, and make friends across year groups. If you haven't signed up yet, there might still be spots available – do check with the office!

On a practical note, I'd like to remind everyone about the importance of proper winter wear. As the cold weather continues, please make sure your child comes to school with a warm coat, hat, and scarf. And don't forget a water bottle – staying hydrated is crucial, even in chilly weather!

We're also keeping an eye on correct uniform. It helps create a sense of community and pride in our school, so we appreciate your support in ensuring your child is properly dressed for school each day. Also remember that snacks should be fresh or dried veg/fruit only - no packets please.

I'm delighted to report that our attendance has started the term on a strong note. This is fantastic to see, as regular attendance is absolutely crucial for your child's education and social development. Every day counts! On that note, I'd like to gently remind parents that if your child is feeling a bit under the weather in the morning, it's best to encourage them to come in and give it a try. Saying things like "if you feel worse, you can come home" can sometimes lead to unnecessary worry and distraction throughout the school day.

Looking ahead, our topic webs for this term will be sent out next week. These will give you a great overview of what your child will be learning in the coming weeks, allowing you to engage with their studies at home.

Lastly, I'd like to share some exciting news from our wider school community. JC Sports, who provide our wrap around care, have recently received an Outstanding rating in their Ofsted inspection. This is a well-deserved recognition of their commitment to providing high-quality care, and we're proud to work with such an excellent partner.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Here's to a brilliant 2025 filled with learning, growth, and achievement for all our Sheet Primary pupils!

Have a great weekend.

Outdoor game of the week ....

In a world dominated by technology and screens, finding meaningful ways to connect with family members outdoors is more important than ever. Whether you're exploring nature, getting active, or simply enjoying each other's company, outdoor games at the park offer endless opportunities for fun and bonding. From classic favorites like Capture the Flag and Kickball to creative challenges like Scavenger Hunts and Giant Jenga, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Here are a couple:

1. Capture the Flag: Capture the Flag is a classic outdoor game that never fails to entertain people of all ages. Split into two teams, each with their own territory and flag, players must strategize and work together to capture the opposing team's flag while defending their own. This game encourages teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The thrill of sneaking into enemy territory or making a daring rescue adds an extra element of excitement to this timeless favorite.

2. Scavenger Hunt: A scavenger hunt is a fantastic way to get families exploring the park while engaging their minds and creativity. Create a list of items or clues for participants to find, such as a specific type of leaf, a certain bird species, or a hidden landmark. You can tailor the scavenger hunt to suit the park's surroundings and the ages of the participants. Not only does this game encourage observation and problem-solving skills, but it also fosters a deeper appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
