Summer 9                                                         4 July 2025

Dear Parents,

What an incredible week we've had at Sheet Primary!

Our swimmers at Monday's Highfield Gala did an absolutely incredible job – and I'm thrilled to tell you they came out as the eventual winners! What fantastic representatives of our school. Tonight, we're back in the pool again at Petersfield Open Air pool, where our Year 5 and 6 pupils will be taking on East Meon, Steep, Buriton and Froxfield. Good luck to all our swimmers racing tonight – we'll be there cheering you on at 6pm. You might want to bring your own chair!

Mrs Black, our new school SENCo, has been into school a few times this week getting herself acquainted with staff and some parents and children. It's lovely to have her on board and I know she's going to be a wonderful addition to our team.

The interviews for our new class teacher to cover maternity leave have gone really well. We're just waiting for confirmation from references and acceptance, and then we'll be in a position to tell you all the exciting news.

We sent five Year 5 children to Horndean this week for the Technology College's most able learners STEM opportunity – MARS (Most Able Rising Stars). They absolutely smashed it and ended up with gold medals and a trophy! Well done to Dino, Ned, Thea, Noah and Lucy-Rose – another gold medal for the school. I couldn't be prouder.

The staging has arrived and our Peter Pan rehearsals are well and truly up and running. It's going to be absolutely magical!

Next week

Swimming continues on Monday

Footsteps continues on Tuesday

Mrs Wilby will be in the library on Wednesday morning if anyone would like to volunteer some help. We really do need some regular help in the library. There is no-one here who has spare time to look after the room which is such a shame, so please let us know if you have a spare afternoon a week to help tidy the room and help us out.

Thursday brings LSA interviews as our lovely Mrs Nicholls is leaving to go and help Mrs Child at Rake. It's a terrible shame for us but good for Rake to have her. Year 2 have a sports event at TPS – parents drop their children off and they'll be brought back for the end of the day. PE kits, hats, water and snack needed.

Friday is our county transition day, or 'bump up' as we like to call it! This is when everyone bumps up to their next class, Year 6 go off to TPS, and the children shuffle into their new classrooms and teachers. Following this very exciting day, we have our annual school colour run – a chance to get wet, colourful and have the most amazing amount of fun. Contact FOSS for more information!

Finally the long awaited reports will be in your child's book bag. Please get yourself settled with a cuppa and read the amazing comments our teachers have prepared for you and write your response for us here back at school. We love to read your summaries of the year too.

One VERY last thing parent questionnaire. I'm closing this on Sunday  click here to have your say - we now have 60! can we make it 70?

Enjoy the weekend...

Highfield Swimming Gala
A huge well done to all the Key Stage Two children who took part in the recent swimming gala! Everyone showed fantastic team spirit, determination, and courage in the pool. Whether it was front crawl, backstroke, relay races or cheering from the sidelines, each of them played an important part in ma...

We’re lucky to have a number of stunning rivers flowing through the county with plenty of wildlife.

Why not try out a family day by the river this weekend?

Internet Safety

According to Ofcom’s latest Children’s Media Use and Attitudes report “funny videos or those showing pranks or challenges continue to be the most popular type of VSP (video-sharing platforms) content for children, watched by 68% of 3-17-year-olds who watch videos.” [source - https://www.ofcom.org.uk/media-use-and-attitudes/media-habits-children/children-and-parents-media-use-and-attitudes-report-2025]

If your child is watching this type of content, then you need to chat to them regularly, particularly about online challenges and the risks that they can pose. There are challenges online that are risky/dangerous. Sadly, there are reports that children have died as a consequence of attempting online challenges.

Children may not yet have developed the skills and ability to critically analyse that what they see online is not always safe for them to replicate. Make sure your child knows that they should talk to you (or another trusted adult) if they are thinking about trying something that they have seen online.

If your child has not heard about an online challenge, then do not draw attention to it as this may lead to them searching for it out of curiosity, so just talk about challenges in a general sense. Furthermore, reassure your child that challenges that suggest that terrible things will happen if they do not complete the tasks are not real.

The following link will provide you with further information as well as content to help you talk to your child: https://www.internetmatters.org/resources/online-challenges-guide/
