Summer 10                                                     11 July 2025

Dear Parents,

What an exciting week we've had at Sheet Primary School! Today has been particularly special as our pupils had the chance to 'bump up' into their new classrooms. It's always wonderful to see the children's faces light up as they explore their new learning spaces and start to imagine the year ahead.

Last Friday WE WON the Small Schools Swimming Gala YYYAAAAYYYY! Well done to all the swimmers and the parents who came out to support us.

This week our Year 2's went to TPS for a Small Schools Sports Day, they had an amazing (if rather warm) day and came back all smiles!

I'm delighted to share some fantastic news about our growing team. We were thrilled to meet Mr Spiers again today, who's joining our Heron's class. I know he'll bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to our school community. We're also excited to introduce Mrs Holdford, who'll be starting with us as a new LSA in September in the Kingfisher class She'll be popping in for a couple of mornings next week, so you might catch a glimpse of her around school.

Today's been action-packed with everyone in new classes and of course our colour run after school - what a brilliant way to end the day! The children will have an absolute blast I'm sure however I have to be in Cobham for a meeting, such a shame I miss it this year!

Looking ahead to next week, we've got some fantastic events lined up:

Our juniors take part in their final swimming lesson at the Open Air Pool.

Our Year 5 pupils have their sports event with local schools on Tuesday at TPS, and I'm sure they'll do us proud. If your child is taking part, please remember to drop them off for a 9am start and pack a snack, lunch and refreshments. The minibus will then collect them for our special teddy bears picnic afterwards back at school.

Speaking of the teddy bears picnic, all infant pupils and parents are warmly invited to join us for this final transition afternoon. It starts at 2pm and will be a lovely opportunity for our Year 5s to meet their new buddies and their parents. All infant parents are welcome too, so please do come along and help us welcome our new families - don't forget to bring a picnic rug!

We are all looking forward to our junior production of 'Peter Pan' at 6 pm on Tuesday 15th and Wedenesday 16th July.

Friday brings our second transition day, and our Year 6 pupils will be heading off to Paultons Park for their leavers trip. I know they're absolutely buzzing with excitement about this special day out.

Before they go, our Year 6s will also benefit from a Money Workshop run by 'The Money Charity' - a brilliant opportunity to learn some valuable life skills as they prepare for their next adventure at secondary school.

It's wonderful to see our school community coming together for these special moments. Thank you for your continued support in making these experiences possible for our pupils.

Enjoy reading your child's report, your children are amazing and so are you!

Attendance

We are just moving from Scholar Pack to Arbour so the school's information system won't let me see the up to date attendance data so no graph today!

Cultural Capital

You might be wondering what cultural capital actually means. Simply put, it's all those experiences, knowledge, and skills that help children understand and navigate the world around them. It's the visits to museums, the conversations about books, the exploration of different places, and the exposure to arts, music, and new ideas. These experiences really do make a difference to how well pupils engage with learning.

Here at Sheet Primary School, we work hard to provide rich cultural capital opportunities throughout the year. We've had some brilliant trips, workshops, and visitors that have opened up new worlds for our pupils. But here's the thing – these experiences are just as valuable, if not more so, when they happen at home and during the holidays.

The summer break is a perfect time to build on what we've started in school. You don't need to spend lots of money or travel far to create meaningful cultural experiences. A trip to your local library, a walk through a historical part of town, or even cooking a meal from another culture together can be incredibly enriching. Reading together, visiting free museums, exploring nature, or attending community events all contribute to your child's cultural capital.

What's wonderful is that these experiences often lead to the best conversations. When pupils return in September, they're bursting with stories and new knowledge that connects to their learning in so many ways. It's amazing how a simple visit to a castle or a chat about a book can spark curiosity that lasts for months.

I know summer can be busy, and it's tempting to let the weeks slip by. But even small, regular experiences can have a big impact. The key is being intentional about creating opportunities for your child to see, do, and discuss new things.

So, as you plan your summer, I'd encourage you to think about what cultural experiences you might share with your child. Whether it's big adventures or small discoveries, every experience adds to their understanding of the world and supports their learning journey.
