Autumn 8                                           8 November 2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

First off, a massive thank you to everyone who joined our Harvest celebration. It was truly special, and I want to give a huge shout-out to Dino, Christopher C, and Alice who brought beautiful music to our event by playing the organ and keyboard. Their talent really made the day memorable and such courage shown.

This week has been all about getting back into our school rhythm. We've celebrated Miss Buxey's birthday, and I'm proud to share that Mrs Newton and Mr Spiers have successfully completed their mini-bus tests. Congrats to all, this will help keep the costs of our school trips down.

Looking ahead, I know many of you are excited about the Sheet Fireworks Extravaganza this weekend. Tickets have completely sold out, and our FOSS team and volunteers are working hard to make this, our biggest event of the year a true success. Gates open 4pm, I personally need some help 'preparing baked potatoes' at 1pm at school if anyone fancies it and we need one or two more marshals. If anyone can lend a hand with setup or the post-event cleanup, please contact Tamar through the class list or ring the school office. Remember, together we can make light work of any task!

Next week brings some important focus areas for our pupils. We'll be dedicating our time to Anti-Bullying Week. Our PSHE lessons will explore crucial topics like bullying, banter, rudeness and kindness. We're also creating bookmarks to take to the Petersfield library - a small gesture to spread some sunshine in our local community.

Thursday is extra special as we'll be celebrating Michael Rosen Day! Our teachers are planning some exciting activities to mark the occasion, so stay tuned!

On Friday, Mrs Stead and Mr Spiers will be attending Oracy training. This is a fantastic opportunity for our staff to dive deep into the importance of speaking and listening skills. They'll explore the evidence base for oracy in KS1 and KS2, understanding why explicit teaching of communication skills is so crucial. The training will equip our teachers with strategies to support and enhance oracy across our curriculum in order to enhance our school and the children's skills.

We're always moving forward, always learning, and always supporting each other.

Don't forget to sign the smartphone free pact for the school, we were in the Petersfield Post last week as leaders of this initiative in Petersfield. so please sign up https://www.smartphonefreechildhood.org/sign-the-parent-pact (we most definitely need more Year 5 and 6)

See you at the Bonfire!

Harvest Festival - Message from Petersfield Food Bank

On behalf of myself and the committee, we would once again like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff, children, parents, Church and everyone who played a part in organising and supporting Harvest Festival.

We are truly grateful for the generosity and community spirit shown by all. The wonderful food donations gifted to the foodbank are deeply appreciated and will go a long way in helping those in need.

A special thank you to the children who have taken the time and effort to create their individual chocolate boxes and write such lovely messages.

Thank you all for your kindness, effort, and continued support.

Attendance

The Importance of Attendance

At our school, we believe that every school day counts. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in ensuring that every child reaches their full potential. The national expectation for attendance is 95% or above, and currently our school sits just below this target at 94.2%. While this may seem a small difference, it represents a significant amount of lost learning time across the year.

When children miss school, even occasionally, they miss out on vital lessons, discussions, and social interactions that can’t be easily replaced. Gaps in learning can quickly build up, making it harder for pupils to keep up with their classmates. Good attendance helps children develop consistent routines, stronger relationships, and a positive attitude toward learning—all essential for future success.

We understand that illnesses do happen, but we urge all parents and carers to ensure their child attends school every day possible. Avoid taking holidays or unnecessary days off during term time. Every lesson matters, and every day in school contributes to your child’s progress and wellbeing.

Together, we can raise our attendance above the national standard and give every child the best chance to succeed.

Attendance matters—every day counts!

Internet Safety

Children can be exposed to a range of online harms, including inappropriate content, cyberbullying, online predators, scams, and misinformation. Even games and social apps designed for children can present risks through chat features, advertisements, and in-app purchases. Young users may also share personal information without understanding the consequences, putting their privacy and safety at risk.

To help keep children safe, start by setting clear rules and boundaries for online use. Keep devices in shared family areas and limit screen time, especially before bed. Use parental controls and privacy settings on devices, browsers, and apps to restrict access to unsuitable material. Talk regularly with your child about what they do online—encourage them to share their experiences and to tell you if something makes them uncomfortable or worried.

Teach children the importance of kindness and respect online, just as they would show in person. Remind them never to share personal information, photos, or passwords, and to think carefully before posting or messaging.

By staying engaged, informed, and proactive, parents can help children enjoy the many benefits of the digital world while staying safe, confident, and responsible online.

Together, we can make the internet a safer place for every child.
