Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wonderful week it has been here at Sheet Primary School—one filled with community spirit, reflection, kindness, celebration, and a great deal of learning. As we move further into the term, I continue to be impressed by the enthusiasm and engagement shown by our pupils in everything they do. I’m delighted to share some highlights from a memorable week.
Fireworks Night – A Spectacular Success
Saturday was an amazing day for our school as FOSS organised our famous annual fireworks display. This event has become such a highlight in our community calendar, and once again it did not disappoint. We sold out of tickets online, and the whole FOSS team worked together brilliantly to put on an outstanding event. The recent count of takings shows an incredible profit of around £7,700 for the school. Although it is a huge amount of work to plan and deliver, this success is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and sheer determination of the FOSS volunteers, who ensured another safe and hugely enjoyable afternoon and evening for all.
To everyone who came along, spent your hard-earned money, and supported the school—thank you. Events like this really show what a strong, vibrant, and caring community we are part of.
Remembrance Day – A Moment of Reflection
On 11th November, the children across the school observed a two-minute silence for Remembrance Day. Our Kestrels class also visited The Poppy Project at St Peter’s Church in town. This extraordinary display is the result of a remarkable collaboration involving many individuals and organisations across Petersfield. Over 17,000 individual poppies have been knitted or crocheted, with contributions arriving from all over the world—including from every single child here at Sheet. Seeing the children spot “their” poppies among thousands was a powerful and meaningful moment, and the visit sparked thoughtful conversations about remembrance, gratitude, and peace.
World Kindness Day – Spreading Positivity
This week we have been focusing on kindness, in celebration of World Kindness Day. Classes explored what kindness looks like in everyday life—how small acts can make a big difference, and how we can be mindful of others in our words and actions. To mark the occasion, the children made beautifully decorated bookmarks which will be inserted into books at Petersfield Library. Next week, I will be taking a group of children to the library to deliver these thoughtful creations. We hope they bring a smile to the faces of those who find them unexpectedly tucked between the pages of a borrowed book!
Michael Rosen Day – Literary Inspiration
Yesterday we celebrated Michael Rosen Day with great excitement. Pupils across the school enjoyed a live podcast from Michael Rosen himself—a fantastic opportunity to listen to one of Britain’s most beloved children’s authors speak about storytelling, poetry, imagination, and the joy of playing with words. The children were thoroughly inspired, and many classes have already begun working on their own poems and stories in response.
Children in Need – Colourful Fundraising Fun
Today is, of course, Children in Need Day. The school has been a wonderfully bright and cheerful place, filled with pupils dressed in their most colourful clothes to raise money for this important charity. Thank you for your donations and enthusiasm, we raised over £100; it has been uplifting to see the children celebrate generosity and community spirit while having so much fun.
Looking Ahead
Next week brings another exciting opportunity: four of our pupils will be taking part in the National General Knowledge Quiz competition. We wish them the very best of luck—they have been working hard, and we know they will do us proud.
We will also continue hosting parent tours for our September 2026 intake. With fewer large events next week, it should be a slightly calmer time for everyone!
Thank you once again for your ongoing support. It has been a super week of learning, remembering, kindness, and charity—everything that makes our school such a special place.
