Spring 9                                                 13 March 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a brilliant week we've had at Sheet Primary! The energy around school has been absolutely wonderful, and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you.

This week, our pupils have been diving into Science Week with real enthusiasm. The children were split into their 'gem' teams and worked through four different science activities – and honestly, the excitement was brilliant to see. From designing and making aeroplanes to measuring themselves to answer scientific questions, every pupil was engaged and having fun while learning. That's exactly what we want science to be about – hands-on, enjoyable, and sparking curiosity. It's these kinds of experiences that help our pupils develop a real love of learning and discovery.

At assembly today, the winners of Henry Adams competition were:

KS1 Freddie, Lower KS2 Flora, Upper KS2 Lucy-Rose

Well done to everyone who entered.

We've also had some lovely moments celebrating our mothers this week. The infant children enjoyed wonderful Mother's Day lunches here at school on Thursday and Friday, and it was really special to see so many of our families join us. These occasions are important – they give us a chance to celebrate the people who matter most to our pupils and create memories together.

Looking ahead to next week, there's plenty happening. Our Year 5s are gearing up for the Petersfield Music Festival, which is always a highlight in our calendar. They'll be attending a rehearsal during the school day, followed by two evening performances on Monday and Wednesday. It's a fantastic opportunity for our young musicians to showcase their talents and experience performing in a larger setting. If your child is involved, I hope you'll be able to join us for one of the evening performances.

We've also got Easter craft making coming up on Friday with Mrs Deuble, which the children always love. It's a great way to get creative and get into the spirit of the season.

We have our Easter Raffle again this year, all proceeds go towards playtime toys etc. - see our poster attached for more details, tickets available from the school office.

On a practical note, we plan to have some paving laid outside the new outdoor classroom and from the bottom of the steps to the field. If anyone has recommendations for a builder or contractor we could approach, we'd be very grateful to hear from you.

Thank you for your continued support of everything we do here at Sheet Primary. It's a real privilege to lead such an engaged and enthusiastic school community.

Make sure your mum's are spoilt on Sunday!

Attendance

Attendance Matters – Every Day Counts!

Did you know that missing just one day a fortnight adds up to nearly four weeks of learning lost in a school year? That’s a lot of maths problems, stories, science experiments… and maybe even a few jokes from your teachers!

School is a bit like a team sport – if players don’t turn up, the team can’t win. The same is true for learning. Every lesson builds on the last, and when students miss school, they miss the pieces that help the whole puzzle make sense.

Of course, if a child is genuinely unwell, staying home is the right thing to do. But wherever possible, being in school, on time, every day helps children build friendships, confidence, and the habits that lead to success.

So here’s our challenge:

🏆 Show up. Be ready. Learn something new. Repeat tomorrow!

Because great attendance isn’t just about being present…
it’s about being part of the journey.

Internet Safety

Internet Safety: Parenting in the Age of Wi-Fi

Once upon a time, parents worried about where their children were going after school. Now we also have to worry about where they’re going… online. The internet is an incredible place for learning, creativity and connection — but it also comes with risks that can appear faster than a child can say, “It just popped up!”

Children today can access the world from the device in their pocket. That means they can discover amazing things like science videos, coding games and virtual museums. Unfortunately, it also means they can encounter things they’re not ready for — from inappropriate content and online bullying to strangers pretending to be someone they’re not.

Here’s the tricky part: most children know how to use technology better than the adults in their house. They can install apps, change settings and somehow fix the Wi-Fi faster than we can find the password. But while they may be tech-savvy, they still need guidance when it comes to making safe decisions online.

The good news? Internet safety doesn’t require a degree in computer science. The most powerful tool parents have is conversation. Talk regularly with your child about what they do online. Ask them which games they play, who they chat with and what apps they enjoy. Keep devices in shared spaces when possible and make use of parental controls where appropriate.

Most importantly, remind children that if something online makes them uncomfortable, confused or worried, they should tell a trusted adult straight away. No judgement, no trouble — just support.

The internet is here to stay, and it will continue to shape our children’s world. By staying curious, involved and informed, we can help ensure that our children use technology safely, responsibly and positively.

After all, the goal isn’t to raise children who fear the internet — it’s to raise children who know how to navigate it wisely.
