Summer 3                                                        1 May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Topic Webs for each class were sent out this morning.

I wanted to share some of the exciting things happening in school right now, as well as what's on the horizon for us all.

First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who's been supporting us behind the scenes. This week, Miss Leney has completed her DSL training, which is fantastic for our safeguarding team. We've also had our air conditioning vents cleaned – a bit of a behind-the-scenes job, but an important one for keeping our school comfortable. The EARA team have had a meeting, and Mrs Stead and Mrs Hines are heading off to more Oracy training next week. It's brilliant to see our staff continuing to develop their skills and knowledge.

Mr Garratt and I have just finished finalising our bid for a new MUGA – that's a Multi-Use Games Area – and we've sent it off to be considered. This would be an incredible addition to the school, giving our pupils and the community even more opportunities for outdoor play and physical activity. Of course, these things depend on funding, so if no funds come through, we'll have to shelve the idea for the time being. But we're hopeful!

I have to give a special mention to everyone who contributed to our submission. The supportive pieces you wrote were genuinely brilliant and really strengthened our bid. And a particular thank you to Paul Garratt, whose invaluable experience in the field was so important as we worked through the various quotes and specifications. It's made a real difference having that expertise on hand. We should know whether we've been successful by the first week in August, and I'll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear anything.

Looking ahead to next week, we've got quite a lot happening. First things first – we've got a bank holiday, so I'm hoping the weather plays ball and we can all enjoy some time outdoors! Year 6 will be continuing to work hard on their preparation for SATs. It's an important time for them, and they're showing real determination and focus.

Year 3 and 4 Herons are heading off on their one-night residential at The Tile Barn Outdoor Centre, located in Brockenhurst. It's a beautiful setting, right against the backdrop of the New Forest National Park. The Tile Barn Outdoor Centre is ideal for schools and youth groups seeking engaging outdoor pursuits, and I'm sure our pupils are going to have an amazing time exploring what's on offer there.

We're also hosting the rural schools EAL meeting at Sheet, which is great for bringing together colleagues from other schools to share best practice and ideas. And Year 5 and 6 will be having special first aid lessons with Mrs Lindfield – another brilliant opportunity for our pupils to learn valuable life skills.

It's moments like these that really showcase what we do here at Sheet Primary. Whether it's supporting our staff in their professional development, bidding for resources that will benefit our pupils, or providing enriching experiences like residential trips and specialist training, we're always thinking about how we can give our community the very best. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our families and the wider community, so thank you for being part of our journey.

In the meantime, enjoy the bank holiday!

Huge congratulations to Archie, Ted and Theo, who raised funds for the Turbo U10 Football Squad. They swam an incredible 2.9 miles—completing 121 laps—and raised over £1,000, along with generous equipment donations from local businesses.

Well done boys, you should be very proud of your achievements.

Message from Mrs Burford

My sister and I, along with our husbands, are taking part in the Alzheimer Trek 26 this Saturday. We’ll be walking 26 mile from Salisbury to Stonehenge to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society; a charity very close to our hearts since our mum was diagnosed a couple of years ago.

If you would like to sponsor us, here is the link below. Many thanks
