Dear parents and carers,
This week, swimming lessons began at the open-air pool and, although the weather was not quite what we would have hoped for, the children still had a fantastic time. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, resilience and enjoyment as they took part in the sessions. Outdoor swimming is such a valuable experience for the children and we are very pleased to continue supporting our local outdoor pool. Thank you to all of the staff who helped make the sessions run smoothly and to families for ensuring children came prepared each day.
This week has also been a very important milestone for our Year 6 children, who have now completed their SATs tests. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, determination and positive attitudes they have shown throughout the week. The children approached each day calmly and maturely and should all feel extremely proud of themselves. To celebrate the end of SATs week, the children received their leavers’ sweatshirts and they were all very excited to wear them proudly around school. A huge thank you to FOSS for once again funding the sweatshirts this year — they are always greatly appreciated and provide a lovely memory for the children as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
I would also like to say a very special thank you to Mrs Hines, Mrs Newton and Mrs Repp for all of the support and preparation they have given the Year 6 children over many months. Their dedication, encouragement and care have made a huge difference. The delicious breakfasts they prepared each morning before the tests were also greatly appreciated and helped the children begin each day feeling relaxed and ready to do their best.
Looking ahead to next week, it is Walk to School Week across Hampshire schools. We would love as many families as possible to support this initiative by walking, cycling or scooting into school each morning where possible. Not only is this a great way to promote healthy lifestyles and independence, but it also helps reduce traffic around the school site and supports our environment. The forecast suggests we may finally have some warmer and sunnier weather, so it would be wonderful to see lots of children travelling actively to school.
Very sadly, the lovely Miss Askew has decided to leave the school which is very sad for us all. However we have an ongoing recruitment drive for LSA's and new staff will be in place as soon as the recruitment process has been completed, in the meantime I am pleased to announce that Mrs Kelly Jones and Mrs Katie Killick will be joining the Kingfishers class after half term on a temporary basis to ensure we have enough 'hands on deck'.
Next week is also our final week before half term and there are still plenty of exciting activities and learning opportunities taking place across the school. Please remember that children should not be bringing toys into school. Despite the reminder in last week’s newsletter, I have noticed football cards appearing in school again this week. These can easily become distracting and sometimes lead to disagreements, so we would appreciate your support in keeping them at home.
Finally, you should all now have received your topic webs for this half term. These include important information and dates for upcoming events, including Sports Day and other key activities, so please do take some time to read through them carefully.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support, you're amazing.
