Dear Parents and Carers,
What a week it's been at Sheet Primary! There's so much to share with you all, and I'm genuinely excited about what's happening across the school right now.
First things first – we have some wonderful news on the staffing front. This week we've been interviewing for LSA positions, and I'm delighted to tell you that Mr Fran Greenslade and Mrs Kelly Jones will be joining our team. Fran has been volunteering with us for a couple of months, and we've been so impressed with him that we're thrilled to have him on board as a permanent member of staff from this week onwards. Kelly will continue volunteering until the end of July, and then she'll be starting with us for three days a week in September. Congratulations to them both – we can't wait to have you as part of the Sheet Primary family!
The children have been having some brilliant experiences this week too. On Tuesday, some of our pupils had the most wonderful day out at Alice Holt, accompanied by Mrs Newton. They went alongside children from other schools in our small schools group, which is always a lovely opportunity for our pupils to connect with peers from neighbouring schools. Back in the classroom, we've also had Year 1 completing their phonics assessments and our Year 4 pupils finishing up their multiplication tests – a big well done to everyone involved in those.
Year 6 had a fantastic time walking to Aldi this week to select ingredients for some cakes they'll be making next week. It's these kinds of experiences that really bring learning to life, and I love watching the children get excited about the practical side of what they're studying.
Looking ahead to next week, there's plenty more to look forward to. Robins class are heading off on an exciting trip to the Aquarium on Monday as part of their 'underwater' discovery theme – I'm sure they're going to have an absolutely brilliant time exploring and learning in that environment. Meanwhile, Kestrels are off to Dell Quay and Fishbourne for their geography field trip, where they'll be continuing their study of rivers. These kinds of trips are invaluable for bringing the curriculum alive, and I always think the children get so much more out of learning when they can experience things firsthand.
It's going to be a busy week for us in other ways too. We'll be interviewing for Mrs Burford's replacement, we've got our Infant Father's Day lunches coming up, DSL training taking place, and we're hosting our first Footsteps event for our new recruits. There's a real sense of momentum in the school at the moment.
However, I do need to flag something that's quite urgent and important. Our Chair of Friends of Sheet School, the lovely Tamar, is preparing to step down, and we urgently need someone to take on this role. I want to be honest with you – if we can't find a replacement, we're going to have to close the FOSS group. That would be a real shame because Friends of Sheet School does some genuinely amazing things for our families, children and community. They work tirelessly to raise money and create opportunities that benefit everyone.
If you've ever thought about getting more involved in school life, this could be the perfect opportunity. The parents involved in FOSS are a great bunch, and it's a wonderful way to get to know other families while really helping to create a buzz around the school. You don't need any special experience – just enthusiasm and a willingness to help. Please do get in touch if you think this might be something you'd like to explore.
