Autumn 1                                                     11 Sept 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

THIS WEEK

What a brilliant first full week back at Sheet!

We have continued to enhance our school environment this week, with lots of hessian, lamps, plants, softer lighting and different types of ‘flexible’ seating appearing around the classrooms. The calm atmosphere across the school has been lovely to see and, most importantly, the children have responded really positively to the changes. We will continue to develop our classrooms over the coming weeks as we think carefully about creating spaces where every child feels comfortable, regulated and ready to learn.

Music has also been filling the school again this week! Herons have started learning African drumming, while AB Stars Music are providing keyboard, drum and singing lessons. Our brass instrument tuition has also begun. It is fantastic to see so many children having the opportunity to learn an instrument and develop their musical talents.

Our junior children are already very excited about our first football tournament at Bedales at the end of the month. The lovely Mrs Mifsud has been in school to run some training sessions with the teams in preparation. If your child has expressed an interest in taking part, please make sure you confirm their place as soon as possible so that we can finalise our teams.

The highlight of the week, though, has to be welcoming our new Robins! What a team they are already turning out to be. They have settled remarkably well and have been busy getting to know their new classroom, adults, routines and each other. We could certainly see some tired faces after their mornings and lunches with us this week – starting school is exhausting! From Monday, they begin full-time and we cannot wait to have them with us for the whole day.

Mrs Worsfold and our two Mrs Joneses have also settled beautifully into the Sheet team. We are delighted to have them with us.

You may have heard from the children that we are now washing our hands before and after eating as part of our strengthened approach to allergy awareness and keeping everyone safe. Following our updated allergy-awareness training and procedures, we have also made the difficult decision that we can no longer accept homemade cakes or food for sharing in school. We know homemade is often the best kind, but the risk of unknown ingredients or cross-contamination is simply too great. We will absolutely still have cake sales – the cakes will just need to be shop-bought and clearly labelled with their ingredients.

Kingfishers/Sparrows have received a letter this afternoon about Forest School on Thursdays. Please check which group your child is in, make a note of their dates and ensure they come dressed appropriately on their Forest School days.

NEXT WEEK

On Tuesday, Fraser Photography will be in school taking individual and sibling photographs. Please see the letter sent earlier this week for full details. Please send children in looking particularly smart – clean uniform and hair looking suitably dapper for the photos! This year, we are also pleased to be bringing back the opportunity for photographs with siblings who do not attend Sheet.

Next week also sees the start of our New Parent Tours for September 2027. It hardly seems possible that we are already showing our school to the families who may become the next generation of Sheet children!

Have a lovely weekend everyone – after such a positive first full week, I think we have all earned it and a huge thank you to the TEAM who have made my first week back a lovely one!
