Autumn 8                                                     23 Oct 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

This Week

Herons enjoyed a great trip in the sunshine to Butser Ancient Farm this week. We were very lucky with the weather! Have a read of the article below, written by Evelyn Murphy, to find out what they got up to.

The Scholastic Book Fair has come and gone. Thank you to everyone who bought books and to the parents who kindly gave up their time to man our little pop-up bookshop. We hope to have earned some good commission from the sales to spend on more books for school.

Talking of books, our library is getting a little facelift! Mrs Orme and Mrs Francis-Baker are keen to bring some new life and freshness to the library. You should have received a letter about this yesterday. Please have a good hunt around at home over half term for any school library books and send them back in. I can't wait to see what they do with the space!

Thank you to everyone who came along to our first parents' evenings of the year. It was lovely to see so many of you and I hope you found the meetings useful.

We had a wonderful Harvest Festival in the church on Thursday. The children sang beautifully and it was a lovely way to come together before the half-term break.

And today, what a fantastic sight with all the dressing up for our Halloween sponsored run (that was postponed)! Some brilliant costumes and lots of fun. Well done to Hadley, who won the tin of chocolates for raising the most sponsorship money. It looks as though we have raised around Β£120 so far, which is great! If you have any outstanding sponsorship money, please bring it along at pick-up today.

Next Week

It's half term! I think everyone is ready for a little break, children and staff included!

When we return, we have a nice gentle start before heading into what I think is the most exciting term of the year – Christmas! There is always so much going on and I already can't wait to see the Nativity.

Sheet Fireworks – Saturday 7th November! πŸŽ†

Don't forget to buy your tickets for the Sheet Fireworks! We sold out last year and there are only 1,500 tickets available, with no ticket sales on the gate, so please don't miss out! Tell your family and friends too.

🎟️ Click here to buy your fireworks tickets

We also really need your help to make the evening a success. If you can spare a little time, please sign up through Classlist or on the paper sign-up sheets at school. Many hands make light work! If you have any questions, please speak to Tamar Hetherington or Alex Jann.

Have the best week off everyone. Enjoy some family time, hopefully a bit of sunshine, and we'll see you all back on Monday 2nd November!

Have a lovely week

Herons Trip to Butser
On Monday Herons went to Butser Ancient Farm. First we went into a Stone Age round house and then we found out how long the Stone Age era lasted. Then we found out the Stone Age era was way bigger than all of the others .... it was massive and then we made clay pots and we sculpted them. Then...

Guidance for parents applying for a place in reception (Year R) September 2027:

  • Include three school preferences on the application to maximise the likelihood of receiving an offer at one of their preferred schools.
  • Ensure applications are submitted by the closing date of 15 January 2027.
  • Use the County Council’s school catchment area finder to identify the catchment school for their home address.
  • Read the school’s admission policies to understand how places are allocated and the criteria that apply where a school is oversubscribed.
  • Think about how your child will get to school. See travel to school to help plan your journey and find out if you are eligible for help with transport. You must name your catchment school(s) if you have one, as a preference if you wish to apply for travel assistance.
